Optuma Breadth Data
Optuma’s Market Breadth data* was updated in 2023 to expand the number of measures available, and also to fix issues with name and symbol consistency.
There are now over 50 daily measures for these major global indices:
- Australia: ASX 200, ASX 300, ASX All Ords indices
- US: Dow Jones, Nasdaq 100, Russell 2000, Russell 3000, S&P 400, S&P 500, S&P 600, S&P 1500, - plus Nasdaq & NYSE exchanges (equities only)
- Europe: EuroStoxx 600, FTSE100, FTSE350
- India: NIFTY 500
- Canada: TSX Composite.
The symbology has also been standardised, so that they are consistent across all groups. Here’s a list of the available Russell 3000 measures, which all start with R3K- (S&P500 measures will start with SPX-, ASX 200 ASX2-, etc).
Note
Clients using the previous breadth database will automatically be switched to the new data, and any saved charts, watchlists, or script formulas will now reference the updated database.
Also, the new data for the NYSE and Nasdaq exchanges are calculated using Common Shares only (ie preferred shares, units, ETFs, and ADRs are not included), so will have different values from the previous data. As such, any saved charts containing trend lines or horizontals will need to be redrawn. However, the shape and levels will be the same.
The breadth data can be displayed as a line chart by themselves, or under a price chart using the Breadth Data tool.
Adding the data to your account
To add the Breadth data to your account log in to your account page and click on the Modify button in the Data section, and select Breadth Measures under Global Data, and then scroll down and click the Save button, beneath your monthly subscription total and billing date.
* To build your own custom breadth measures will require the Technical Market Breadth module.
